A Collected New Chapter

After leaving a large, formal residence in Virginia for a new home in Chapel Hill, our client was ready for a change. The goal was to create a more relaxed and manageable home without leaving behind the antiques, art and furnishings collected over a lifetime.

Reed & Acanthus carefully considered which pieces would make the transition, combining familiar favorites with new furnishings, fabrics and finishes to give them a fresh context. Inspired by the natural world, a palette of soft blues, leafy greens and warm neutrals flows throughout the home, complemented by floral fabrics, botanical motifs and natural textures. The result feels lighter and more relaxed, yet still personal and collected—a home that reflects where our client has been while embracing this new chapter.

Dining Area

Designed for intimate dinners and small gatherings, the dining area combines comfort with a sense of occasion. Traditional furnishings are softened by a nature-inspired palette and layered textures, creating a welcoming space that feels connected to the rest of the home.

Living Area

The living room began with a wool rug in earthy greens and cream, its organic pattern reminiscent of tree bark and a striking contrast to the dark hardwood floors. Floral draperies, richly textured fabrics and layers of lighting add warmth, while framed chinoiserie panels depicting birds, flowers and bamboo continue the home's connection to nature. Familiar pieces mingle easily with new additions, giving the room the sense that it has evolved over time.

Game Room

Designed especially for bridge, the game room allowed us to have a little fun. Wallpaper featuring rows of climbing monkeys brings wit and personality to the intimate space, creating a memorable setting for afternoons and evenings spent with friends.

Primary Bedroom

Soft blues, warm neutrals and gentle pattern give the primary bedroom a quiet, restful quality. The palette continues the nature-inspired story found throughout the home while creating a comfortable retreat that feels serene without being overly formal.
