Reed & Acanthus is a full-service interior design and renovation firm known for creating collected, highly personal interiors that balance timeless design with the way we live today.
Rather than imposing a signature look, we begin with our clients—the way they live, the things they love, and the character of the house itself. Antiques and contemporary pieces, art and collections, color, pattern and texture are thoughtfully layered to create rooms that feel distinctive, comfortable and as though they have evolved naturally over time.
From the thoughtful reworking of a single room to a comprehensive renovation, each project is approached with an appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship and enduring design.
Meet Katharine Kelly Rhudy
Katharine Kelly Rhudy, founder and principal designer of Reed & Acanthus, brings a distinctive background in decorative arts, antiques and interior design to every project.
With an M.A. in the History of Decorative Arts from Cooper Hewitt/Parsons, studies in Appraisal Studies at New York University and Interior Design at Fairfield University, Katharine began her career at Sotheby’s in New York. That experience developed the collector’s eye that continues to inform her work today—an appreciation for provenance, craftsmanship and the unexpected mix of periods and styles that gives a room depth and individuality.
Katharine founded Reed & Acanthus in 2001, initially combining antiques and interiors before expanding the firm into full-service interior design and renovation. Her work ranges from historic residences and gracious traditional homes to relaxed coastal retreats and contemporary family spaces.
At the heart of her approach is the belief that the most memorable interiors are not created all at once. They are collected and layered over time. Katharine is equally comfortable finding a place for a treasured family antique, sourcing an important new piece, introducing contemporary art or rethinking the architecture of a house to better suit modern life.
