The Elegance Of Georgian Style

When the owners of this New Canaan Georgian began contemplating a move, they first decided to update the interiors in preparation for selling. What began as a refresh soon became something more: an opportunity to rediscover the house they had called home for years.

Reed & Acanthus introduced a softer palette of aqua, green and cream, drawing inspiration from the landscape surrounding the house. Existing furnishings were thoughtfully reupholstered and combined with new rugs, window treatments, lighting, art and select pieces, allowing the rooms to evolve without losing their established character.

The home's traditional architecture called for interiors with a certain degree of formality, but we wanted that elegance to feel comfortable rather than precious. Classic furniture forms, rich textiles and carefully considered details give the rooms a sense of occasion, while the fresh palette and natural influences keep them light and inviting.

In the end, the transformation had an unexpected result: the homeowners fell in love with their house all over again—and decided not to sell.

Entrance Hall

The entrance hall introduces the gracious character of the Georgian home with a carefully layered mix of traditional furnishings, art and decorative objects. Rather than treating it simply as a passageway, we approached the hall as a room of its own, creating a welcoming first impression that anticipates the more formal interiors beyond.
