MARTHA'S VINEYARD: COASTAL COMFORT

Relaxed, comfortable and connected to its island setting, this Martha's Vineyard home was designed for the easy rhythms of summer living. Rather than relying on overtly nautical themes, Reed & Acanthus used a light palette, natural textures and layers of blue and white to create interiors that feel fresh, welcoming and at home by the coast.
Comfort was central to the design. Furnishings were selected for the way the family actually lives—casual gatherings, houseguests and long summer days that move easily between indoors and out. Pattern and color bring personality to the rooms, while practical materials keep the atmosphere unfussy and inviting.
The result is a home that captures the spirit of Martha's Vineyard without feeling themed: colorful but calm, traditional but relaxed, and designed above all to be enjoyed.
Family Room
Deep navy upholstery anchors the family room, while coral accents and graphic patterns bring energy to the classic blue-and-white palette. A bold striped rug and geometric pillows are balanced by floral drapery, creating a playful mix of pattern that feels relaxed rather than overly coordinated. Weathered wood, painted furniture and abundant natural light add to the easygoing character, giving the room a distinctly coastal spirit without relying on obvious seaside motifs.
Bedrooms
Each bedroom was given its own personality while remaining connected to the relaxed character of the house. In the primary bedroom, layers of blue and white are paired with exposed antique beams, bringing warmth and architectural character to the airy space. Floral fabrics soften the palette and keep the room feeling more like a traditional island home than a conventional beach house.
In another bedroom, lavender-blue is enlivened with touches of fresh green and a bold floral fabric at the windows. Painted furniture, patterned bedding and simple natural textures create a room that feels cheerful and comfortable—colorful enough to be memorable, but relaxed enough for summer living.
